First remember the size 2 1/2 by 3 1/2 Next, always protect your cards with a plastic sleeve or a plastic bag. Make sure your atc cards can fit into a protective plastic sleeve if they don't fit most host will mail your cards back to you. Follow the requirements of the swap host. And ask question, even if they seem silly. Trust me they have been asked before.

I like the fact that atc's have such a wide range to trade. Collage Atc's Painted Colored Pencils Pen and Inks Fabric Hand drawn Stampped
I'm sure I missed some. But the themes are endless and I like receiving an extra atc when hosting too. I keep all extra things sent to me when I host swaps. Even the buttons and stripes of papers sent.
Most swap Host will tell you how many atc to create for the swaps and what information to place on the backs of the atc cards. But I find it helpful with always placing the swap Title on the Mailing Envelopes and my username as well with my mailing info.
Hope this helps! |

Scootie dog,
Hi, I'm new to doing atc cards. I've seen my mom do them many times and it seems fun. :)

I say try them all. You'll find you enjoy one kind of atc theme better than the others. Or you'll find one you just don't feel comfortable with making. After a while you'll know which style is best for you. However, I'll give any type a try once.
Most hosts welcome new members right in so don't be shy, sign right up. Plus, host will tell the group if they don't want newer members. They'll post something like," You must have 5 completed trades to join."
If you don't want to join in a swap group right away. Another helpful suggestion is post your gallery here. Or in the gallery section post a link to your gallery if you have it in photobucket or another place. Once you have your images up in the gallery section or link. Ask for a one on one trade. The members will look at your work and have you look at theirs if they are interested and you can pm the information for the trade.

I use Ultra-pro sports card trading sleeves to ship my ATC's in. I find them sturdier than a regular baggie or light wieght plastic sleeve that some use- they stand up to the wear and tear of handling ATC's as well.
I get mine at Walmart for about $3 (canadian) for a package of 35.

I've used those too, howie but usually use the light weight sleeve. I've also made my own little protectors with paper. You teens could have fun making and using those to trade with. Plus then you don't have you spend any money on sleeves.

Thank you to everyone who is so helpful in your explanations.
I'm following along carefully as I've only ever made 3 ATCs and failed to photograph 2, and think I've lost the photo of the other!
Is there a place where the Scavenger Hunt style ATC's are described? I noticed that a Scavenger Hunt swap is going on now and wondered about it. I know what a Scavenger Hunt is, just not how it translates to an ATC?
Thanks, Di |
